Aaron Hernandez arrested for killing

Boston.- New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez was taken from his home in handcuffs Wednesday morning, more than a week after a Boston semi-pro football player was found dead in an industrial park a mile from the player's house.

Odin Lloyd, a 27-year-old semi-pro football player for the Boston Bandits, was found slain June 17. Officials ruled the death a homicide but did not say how Lloyd died.

Lloyd's relatives said he was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiancee, that the two men were friends and that both men were out together on the last night of Lloyd's life.

It's unclear why Hernandez was being taken into custody Wednesday around 9 a.m. and put into the back of a police cruiser. He was wearing a white V-neck T-shirt, with his arms inside the shirt and behind his back. He casually spit into some bushes on his way to the car.

Lloyd's mother, Ursula Ward, declined to comment at her Boston home Wednesday morning.

"Nothing to say, please. Thank you," she said, before shutting the door.
State police have searched in and around Hernandez's home in North Attleborough several times. At least three search warrants have been issued in connection with the investigation.

Reporters have been camped out for days at Hernandez's sprawling home on the Rhode Island line, not far from the stadium where the Patriots play. They reported Tuesday that Hernandez got a visit from Boston defense attorney James Sultan.

The Patriots drafted Hernandez, who is originally from Bristol, Conn., out of the University of Florida in 2010. Last summer, the team gave him a five-year contract worth $40 million.

Patriots spokesman Stacey James has said the team did not anticipate commenting publicly during the police investigation.

Cahoon, the city's IT Department as an employee and later a consultant, obtained more than $10,000 fraudulently during a period from early 2008 until late 2009. During that period, Cahoon "subverted" state bidding laws and caused at least eight contracts with the city totaling $193,460 "to be awarded to his friends and associates."

Records noted his "scheme to steal" targeted federal programs involving hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Judge Says Duggan to Attend September Police Academy

Newburyport Superior Court judge Robert Welch told city attorneys last week that Rumbo columnist Tom Duggan has waited long enough. Duggan has been suing the city for eleven years for the right to serve on the Lawrence Police Department as his father Tom Duggan, Sr. did before losing his life in the line of duty. Duggan is also suing the city for 1.2 million dollars for falsifying documents to keep him off the police department in 1992. 

City attorney Tom Bowers stood before Judge Welch to argue that Duggan had to take more physical examinations before attending the Police Academy despite the fact that previous court orders stated that Duggan had passed all physical requirements to become a police officer. "Unfortunately, the Criminal Justice Training Council which runs the police academy and the Department of Personnel Administration have changed the regulations on physical requirements for entrance to the academy," Bowers said. "We cannot send Mr. Duggan to the academy because he is refusing to take these physicals."

Duggan, who represented himself at the hearing argued that the new physical requirements were enacted in 1996, after he was originally supposed to be hired. The new requirements state that physical examinations and a physical aptitude test must be conducted less than six months prior to attending the police academy. "Your honor, this is an ex-post facto law that went into effect long after I applied for the job. I should have been hired in 1990, and the city illegally denied me this job. If they had hired me when they were supposed to I would not have had to meet the 1996 requirements."

Judge Welch agreed saying, "Given the history of this case (Tom Duggan vs. The City of Lawrence) I can’t imagine if Mr. Duggan went for another physical exam the city would pass him. Then he would have to appeal that physical to Civil Service as he has in the past, and this would start the appeals process all over again. I think Mr. Duggan has waited long enough. So, what I am gong to do is this; I am going to enjoin the Department of Personnel Administration and the Criminal Justice Training Council as defendants in this case and order that the new 1996 physical requirements be waived for Mr. Duggan so that he can attend the September class at the police academy."

Welch then scheduled a hearing date for July 9, 2001, where he ordered the Department of Personnel Administration and the Criminal justice Training Council to appear before him to settle the matter and clear the way for Duggan to appear at the Police Academy and finally become a Lawrence Police Officer.

After the hearing, Duggan said he was excited this case was coming to a close after eleven years and that he will accept the job as a Lawrence Police Officer. "The city of Lawrence has been fighting my appointment since 1990 and I’m thrilled that Judge Welch has taken a personal interest in my plight against the city. My father served this city well for 18 years and died protecting our citizens. Often, during the last eleven years I’ve wondered if I would even want the job when the case came to a conclusion," Duggan said. "I always knew this was going to be a long fight, but I am happy to say that I feel no different today than I did when I first applied for the job."

Duggan says his appointment to the Lawrence Police Department does not change anything as far as his million dollar lawsuit against the city is concerned, "Employees for the City of Lawrence falsified documents and committed fraud. They claimed I was too dangerous to carry a gun. They claimed I was not psychologically fit to be a cop. They conspired to pervert the hiring process and in doing so they have damaged my reputation, denied me eleven years of income and cost me positions on other police departments. There must be an atonement for what has occurred here. And I’m not the only one. I’m not just fighting for myself at this point I am fighting for all the other police applicants who were illegally passed over and didn’t have the will or the resources to stand up and fight."
Duggan said he has hired a personal trainer to get him in shape for September and will request Chief Romero to take his father’s badge number out of retirement so that he can wear it when he is sworn in.

Juez del Tribunal de Superior de Newburyport Robert Welch dijo a los abogados de la ciudad la semana pasada que Rumbo columnista Tom Duggan ha esperado lo suficiente. Duggan ha demandando a la ciudad durante once años por el derecho a servir en el Departamento de policía de Lawrence como su padre que Tom Duggan, Sr. hizo antes de perder su vida en cumplimiento de su deber. Duggan también está demandando a la ciudad de 1,2 millones de dólares por falsificar documentos para mantenerlo fuera de la policía en 1992.

Welch luego programa una fecha de audiencia para el 09 de julio de 2001, donde ordenó el Departamento de administración de personal y el Consejo de formación judicial para comparecer ante él para resolver el asunto y despejar el camino para Duggan a aparecer en la Academia de policía y finalmente convertirse en un agente de la policía de Lawrence.

Después de la audiencia, Duggan dijo que estaba emocionado este caso estaba llegando a su fin después de once años y que va a aceptar el trabajo como un oficial de policía de Lawrence. "La ciudad de Lawrence ha estado luchando con mi cita desde 1990 y estoy encantado de que el juez Welch ha tomado un interés personal en mi situación contra la ciudad. Mi padre fue esta ciudad bien durante 18 años y murió protegiendo a nuestros ciudadanos. A menudo, durante los últimos once años me he preguntado si aún quisiera el trabajo cuando el caso llegó a una conclusión,"Duggan dijo. "Siempre he sabido esto iba a ser una lucha larga, pero estoy feliz de decir que me siento ningún diferente que cuando aplicado por primera vez para el trabajo."

Duggan dice su nombramiento en el Departamento de policía de Lawrence no cambia nada en cuanto a su demanda millonaria contra la ciudad, "empleados de la ciudad de Lawrence falsificaron documentos y cometieron fraude. Conspiraron para pervertir el proceso de contratación y al hacerlo ha dañado mi reputación, me negaste once años de ingresos y me costó posiciones en otros departamentos de policía. Debe haber una expiación por lo que ha sucedido aquí. Y no soy el único. Estoy luchando no sólo contra para mí en este momento que estoy luchando para todos los otros policía solicitantes que ilegalmente se pasaron y no tienen la voluntad o los recursos para levantarse y luchar."
Duggan dijo que ha contratado a un entrenador personal para ponerlo en forma para septiembre y solicitará Romero jefe tomar número de insignia de su padre su retiro para que puede usar cuando él es juramentado.
